【Profile of Silvestro Sammaritano】
Former Baritono of Teatro alla Scala Milano.Formerly in charge of teaching at the exclusive singer training school of Teatro alla Scala Milano

Born in Sicily, Italy, the eldest son of a strict military father and a teacher mother. He did not receive any specialized musical education, although his teacher sometimes sang for his beautiful voice when he was a student. He originally wanted to be a painter, but his father ordered him to go to college instead of being an unstable painter, so he had no choice but to graduate with honors from the University of Economics. After graduation, she fulfilled her duty and earned her living as a painter until the age of 29, when a wealthy lady who came to her gallery told her that it would be a great loss for her not to sing with her voice, so she was half-assedly persuaded to enter the Giuseppe Verdi He entered the Conservatorio Nazionale di Musicae di Milano. He studied under Campo Galliani, who was also Pavarotti’s teacher, but decided to leave the conservatory soon after, as he had nothing to teach…. He continued his studies with tenors Giacinto Prandelli and Alfredo Kraus, and in particular, learned breathing techniques, the heart of vocal music. He passed the exam to join the exclusive chorus of La Scala in Milan just two years after beginning to study vocal music. While gaining experience in the La Scala Chorus, he refined his singing and acting techniques, expanded his repertoire, and won a number of prestigious competitions, including the International Verdi Voice Competition (Busseto, Italy), where he was awarded the Bastianini Prize (the highest award for baritone voice). At the same time, he made his operatic debut as Marcello in La bohème at the Opera Basilea. After her debut at Opera Basilea, she performed many Verdi operas, including Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor and the title role in Rigoletto. His repertoire includes Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana, Esmilio in Carmen, and Leporello in Don Giovanni.Although she was a member of other world-famous music companies, she received a direct call from the great conductor Claudio Abbado asking her to sing at La Scala in Milan, and in 1980 she signed an exclusive soloist contract with La Scala in Milan. (He was one of only two soloists to have sung on the La Scala stage without any musical training, and only on the basis of his singing ability.)In addition, while continuing to make frequent appearances at La Scala in Milan, he was asked enthusiastically by Claudio Abbado to become the head instructor at La Scala’s exclusive singer training school, in recognition of his exceptional teaching abilities. He has performed with Bernstein, Giulini, Muti, Oren, Ozawa, Sinopoli, Savarisch, and many other famous conductors and singers, including Pavarotti, Domingo, Carreras, Krauss, and Freni. He has performed not only Italian opera, but also French, Russian, and German opera.
He was also invited to give recitals in Italy, Germany, France, China, and other countries. He first came to Japan in 1981 for a moving performance at Teatro alla Scala, and in 1999 he was a special lecturer at the training institute of the New National Theatre, Tokyo.
In 1986, she appeared in the legendary performance of Madama Butterfly at La Scala in Milan, directed by Keita Asari (representative of the Shiki Theater Company) and costumed by Hanae Mori, and has been a close friend ever since. He is also actively involved in training successors and continues to teach soloists at La Scala in Milan. He believes that there are many people who can sing well, but teaching requires a different kind of talent and passion, and it is no exaggeration to say that his teaching ability is the best in the world, as he was in charge of teaching soloists at La Scala in Milan. He is highly regarded for his teaching, which is, in effect, the equivalent of bel canto singing (in fact, the definition is not deeply thought out and is used commercially); as of 2019, he is a painter and has had a solo exhibition in Milan, and appeared in many commercials last year. Because of his resemblance to Verdi, the founding father of the country, he has appeared in a Verdi movie and is so famous that everyone waves to him when he gets off the plane.Riho Tagawa is the only active pupil in Japan (the others are soloists at La Scala in Milan and others), and since he has passed on all of his teaching methods to Riho, Riho Tagawa has become a kind of general agent for the world and is providing full support for the establishment of Silvestro Music Academy.
